Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has warned us in His book, Al-Quran, that
Shaitan
is our enemy.
'Verily Satan is an enemy to you: so treat him as an enemy.' 35:Fatir:6
"Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed
enemy unto you?" 7:Al-A'raaf:22
That Shaitaan is no ordinary adversary is made clear earlier in the
same
surah.
"Get out, for thou art of the meanest (of creatures)." 7:Al-A'raaf:13
In Arabic, Shatan means rebellion, wickedness, etc,. Shaitaan is he who
has
reached the limits of such evils. According to one tradition, the
history
of this particular Shaitaan, who is also known as Azaazeel or Iblees,
is
that he was of the tribe that was made 'from the fire of scorching
wind'.
In the beginning, the earth was inhabited with Jinns. When they turned
to
disorder and bloodshed, Allah sent Iblees with an army of angels to
straighten them out. Fighting and killing, Iblees with his armies
pushed
the insurgent Jinns into isles and vales. The success in his mission
filled
Iblees' heart with pride for having accomplished what no one else had
achieved before.
2.Basis of enmity:
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RAA) states that Azaazeel lived on earth and was
foremost
in knowledge and intellect. This filled his head with pride. The order
to
bow down before Prophet Adam (PBUH) which was intended to show
subservience
to Allah's command and deference to Adam (PBUH) did not sit well with
the
haughty being.
Iblees was held back from obeying Allah's command by his overwhelming conceit. His pride brought upon him perverse obstinacy and the yoke of accursedness which ultimately led to his dismissal from Allah's assembly. According to Hazrat Qattada (RUA) the first sin in the heavens was on account of this very pride. In a Sahih Hadith, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that whosoever shall have pride in his heart equal to the seed of mustard shall not enter Jannah. May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala rid our hearts of all pride and vanity. Aameen.
It is the avowed intent of this our worst enemy to mislead and misguide
us
from the Straight Path. Having lost all hope of redemption, he is now
determined to push others into the same despairing position. Hence, he
and
his family and companions are committed to waylaying mankind and
righteous
jinns.
'He only invites his adherents that they may become companions of the
blazing fire.' 35:Fatir:6
P.S. Jinns live considerably longer than mankind, somewhere between
nine
and ten times the life span of man. However, it is only Iblees or
Azaazeel
who has been given lease of life to the end of the world.
Lawful and Illicit matters are plain in Islam: On the authority of
Nauman
Ibn Bashir (RAA), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say:
"That
which is lawful is plain and that which is unlawful is plain, and
between
the two of them are doubtful matters about which not many people know.
Thus
he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion
and
his honour. But he who falls into doubtful matters falls into that
which is
unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures (his flock) around a
sanctuary,
all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly
Allah's sanctuary is His prohibitions. Truly in the body there is a
morsel
of flesh which, it be whole, all the body is whole and which, if it be
deceased, all of it is deceased. Truly, it is the heart." Sahiheen
Muslim
& Bukhari
3.Who is really poor?:
According to a tradition, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) asked his companions
(RAA): "Do you know who is destitute?". "He who is without provisions,"
answered the companions (RAA). The Prophet (SAW) replied; "In fact, it
is
he who did not spend his wealth during his lifetime in Allah's way."
Musnad
Ahmad
Anger, its antidote and reward for curbing it: Hazrat Hartha bin Qadama (RAA) appeared before Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and asked to be told something of profit which would be brief for him to remember. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said; "Do not be angry.". He asked again and again and he was given the same advice. Musnad Ahmad
In another tradition from Musnad Ahmad Urwa bin Muhammad (RUA) said that I have heard from my elders that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that anger is from Shaitaan, and Shaitaan is made of fire, and water puts out the fire. Therefore, when you are angry sit down for wadhu (ablution). Musnad Ahmad
Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) said that whosoever gives relief to an indigent through an extension in the term of his loan or forgives him his loan, Allah Ta'ala frees him from Jahannam. The deeds leading to Jannah are tough and difficult and the deeds leading to Jahannam are light and pleasing. Pious is he who escapes tumult. And there is no draught of drink dearer to Allah than the drinking of one's anger. Imaan spreads and takes hold in such a person's heart. Musnad Ahmad
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said he who in spite of the strength (to express
it)
curbs his ire, Allah Almighty shall call him before all creation and
give
him the right to choose whichever Houri he likes. Musnad Ahmad
4.Good Muslim:
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (RAA) who said that
Prophet
Muhammad (SAW) said; "Part of someone's being a good Muslim is his
leaving
alone that which does not concern him." Tirmizi
Muslim Brothers and Sisters, spreading of Islam is a responsibility placed upon all of us. In Quran, Allah commands: 'Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong.' Al-Imran:104.
Allah also instructed Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as follows; 'O Messenger! Proclaim the (Message) which hath been sent to thee from thy Lord.' 5:Al-Maidah:67 As his Ummah, we share this burden. Kindly forward these writings on Islam to whomsoever you may. May Allah Kareem accept our insignificant efforts. Aameen.
